In order to guide and promote the coordinated and integrated development of the urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in the future, the State Development and Reform Commission, with the consent of the State Council, recently issued the "Development Plan for the Urban Agglomerations in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River", and issued the plan to the public on the 16th.
The urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is a mega-urban agglomeration mainly composed of Wuhan metropolitan area, Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan metropolitan area and Poyang Lake area. The total area of the urban agglomeration is about 317,000 square kilometers. The regional gross domestic product will reach 6 trillion yuan in 2014 and the total population will reach 121 million at the end of the year.
The plan points out that the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, which links the East with the West and the South with the north, is an important part of the Yangtze River economic belt, and is also an important area for implementing the strategy of promoting the rise of the central region, deepening the reform and opening up in an all-round way, and promoting the new urbanization.
